Water Ejector

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers about using sound to get water out of a phone speaker. Still unsure? Contact us.

Does the water eject sound really work?

Yes, for water sitting in the speaker grille. The low tone makes the speaker cone move a lot, and that movement pushes droplets out through the holes. It cannot reach water that got inside the phone itself.

What frequency does Water Ejector use?

The default is 165 Hz, a low tone that makes most phone speakers move strongly. You can also try Sweep, which moves between 120 and 300 Hz, or set any frequency from 60 to 500 Hz with Custom.

How many times should I run it?

Run it two or three times, gently shaking the phone with the speaker facing down between runs. Stop when the sound is clear again.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes. It runs in Safari, Chrome and other modern browsers on iPhone, iPad and Android, with no app to install. Turn the volume all the way up first.

Why is there no sound on my iPhone?

Check that the volume is up and that no headphones or Bluetooth speakers are connected. The tone is played as normal media audio, so it should play even when the silent switch is on.

Can it clean the earpiece speaker at the top?

Browsers play sound through the main speaker, so the tool works best on the bottom speaker. Holding the phone with the earpiece facing down while it plays can still help a little.

Is it safe for my phone?

Playing a tone at full volume for a minute is the same as playing loud music, which phones are built for. Do not hold the phone against your ear while it plays.

Should I put my phone in rice?

No. Apple advises against it, and rice dust can get into the ports. Let the phone dry in open air with the ports facing down instead.

How long should the tone play?

Thirty seconds is a good default. Use 60 seconds if a lot of water got in, then repeat once or twice with a short pause between runs.

Can I use it on an Apple Watch?

Apple Watch has its own Water Lock feature that does this job. Turn on Water Lock before swimming and turn the Digital Crown to clear the speaker afterwards.

Will it fix a phone that fell into water?

It only clears water from the speaker grille. If the phone was submerged, turn it off, dry the outside, let it rest with the ports facing down for at least a day and get it checked if anything does not work.

Why does the sound stay muffled?

Some water can stay trapped behind the speaker mesh. Run the tone again with the Sweep sound, then leave the phone to air dry. If it is still muffled after a day, the speaker may be damaged.

Do you record or store anything?

No. The tone is created in your browser, nothing is recorded and no account is needed. Read our privacy policy for details.

Does it work on a laptop or tablet?

Yes. It works on any device with speakers and a modern browser, including iPad, Android tablets and laptops.
